To Whom It May Concern:
Good afternoon. I am writing to you today in hopes that you might be able to provide us with much needed financial assistance. My name is Cheryl Szary and I am the President of Allen Babcock Dog & Cat Rescue, Inc. We are a true no-kill, non profit (501C3) dog and cat rescue organization based in South Florida.
Many of our rescued animals are injured, abused or abandoned and require extensive medical care. We open our arms to many of the animals that most other local groups will not even consider, thus our medical bills and boarding bills are quite extensive. Our main focus is to get dogs off the streets, out of high kill shelters and away from abusive environments. Once the animal is in our care we immediately seek treatment from our veterinarian, including vaccinations and mandatory spay and neuter. We are very passionate about the pet overpopulation situation in South Florida and none of our dogs are adopted without first being altered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. As we do not have a shelter, we work out of our own homes, through a small network of foster homes and in the last alternative, pay to board our dogs at kennels. We then attend weekly adoption events at our local Petsmart store to find homes for our dogs and to raise donations to cover our bills - and cross our fingers for the rest. We have a binding adoption contract and conduct home visits and extensive interviews before all of our adoptions are final.
This year has been quite difficult for us as we have encountered a high number of cruelty and neglect cases. One dog in particular that is in our care now, Tuesday, is a year old lab female who was neglected so horribly that she does not have one single hair on her body. Her skin is so badly infected that she has a course crust over her entire body. Her treatment will be extensive but the end results are so rewarding and we await the day that we are taking her to her new loving home, now a healthy and happy dog. Another dog we have recently taken in, Daisy, is a young chihuahua that was hit by a truck in Miami. The fact that she is alive is a miracle in its own, but she suffers a broken pelvis and fractured leg. Her treatment at the vet's office is complete and she is to be released into a quiet foster home this week to begin her healing process – however we now have to start paying for her treatment bills. Our list goes on and on and we never deny our animals anything other than the best care possible and with that care comes hefty expenses. We are seeking your assistance so that we can continue our hard work and dedication towards the animals in need. If there is any way you could help us, we would be tremendously grateful. I have attached a few pictures of our special needs dogs to this email, including Tuesday, Daisy and a lab mix named Tootsie, who was born lacking bone in her front leg. We kindly ask if you would please consider our group for one of your generous grants. If you require any additional information, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for all that you do for the animals in need, you are truly an inspiring organization.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Szary
